His draft stock fell due to nagging injuries and mediocre measurables – he didn’t test well when the old men with rulers showed up. Make no mistake, Andre Ellington is fast enough and very quick. He makes big plays on the ground and in the screen game. You might not be able to call it “home-run speed”, but you can definitely call it “break-away speed”. When he gets to the second level, his vision and acceleration make him a big play waiting to happen. The biggest knock on Ellington is his size- but he has all the tools to prove that wrong. He weighs the same as Chris Johnson, but is two inches shorter. Creating a more compact, powerful build, and lower center of gravity. He runs with forward lean, balance, and power. He has good feet and leg drive. He’s hard to take down and consistently demonstrates the ability to fight through traffic at the line of scrimmage. Some call him a “perimeter guy”. Those are “scouts” that watch highlight reels. Go watch the full game films, Ellington runs inside and out with toughness. He can finish in redzone and short yardage scenarios. Clemson used him as a workhorse, feeding him 25+ touches in several games over the ...

Cardinals draft RBs Stepfan Taylor, Andre Ellington on Saturday

Source: www.fftoolbox.com --- Saturday, April 27, 2013
Cardinals training camp is going to be fun. Besides the obvious questions about Larry Fitzgerald's fantasy prospects with Carson Palmer and vice versa, they have a lot of talent in the backfield. The Cardinals spent two picks Saturday on running backs, Stanford's Stepfan Taylor in the fifth round and Clemson's Andre Ellington in the sixth round. They will join Rashard Mendenhall and Ryan Williams in the desert. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Keep in mind that Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is not a fan of the committee backfield. Taylor proved to be durable in college and was more productive overall than Ellington, but Ellington is much faster and athletic. Taylor doesn't impress you with his speed or quickness; he is a tough inside runner while Ellington is more of a home-run hitter with 4.5-40 speed. Both of these players are third and fourth on the depth chart right now, but given Mendenhall's and Williams' injury history, both could be moving up quickly in a few months. I like Ellington's pro prospects more because of his natural ability, but he's probably too small to be the every-down guy that Arians is looking for. He has a rather lengthy medical sheet, too. The Cardinals also spent two picks trying to upgrade their dreadful offensive line. If that unit gets straightened out, some running back here is going to be a great value pick in fantasy leagues. Again, this is a major situation to watch in camp. ...

Source: www.yardbarker.com --- Saturday, April 27, 2013
Speedy Clemson running back Andre Ellington lasted until the 6th round, when the Arizona Cardinals saw the opportunity to grab him with the 187th pick overall. Ellington earned first team all-conference and finished as Clemson's fourth leader in rushing in school history with 3,436 yards, just below former teammate C.J. Spiller. Although his 40 time (4.6) is misleading, he will have to shake off the injury prone label. The Positive: Ellington is undersized, but makes the most of it with near-elite agility and change of direction. Isn’t a shake and bake back, He’s more in the mold of Joseph Addai in looking for the opening and making one cut up field. Prefers to find a crease and run up in it hard. Not afraid of contact. Ellington has big-play ability and his acceleration is very good. The Negative: Missed a lot of practice and a fair number of games in his collegiate career. Too often tries to slide outside to break off a big play instead of just getting positive y... ...

Many had him rated as a player who should have been drafted a couple rounds earlier. Matthew Fairburn's notes , via SB Nation: Strengths Ellington relies on his quickness to make defenders miss at the line of scrimmage and break into the secondary. He manages to reach his top speed in a hurry and changes direction with ease. Ellington is a terrific one-cut back who explodes in and out of his breaks. He is also a very decisive runner, which makes him a perfect fit for a zone blocking scheme. Ellington is a true burner who can reach a gear not many players can match. He gets to the edge in a hurry and simply runs away from defenders on occasion. Weaknesses Occasionally, Ellington displayed questionable vision last season. He would get stuffed at the line because of running straight into defenders instead of finding cut back lanes. As a smaller back, Ellington isn't terribly difficult to bring down. He doesn't break a ton of tackles. While Ellington would seem to have the skills to be a threat out of the backfield, he hasn't put it all together in his career at Clemson. He also isn't much of a pass blocker. Will need to improve in these areas to show added value to NFL teams. The Cardinals final remaining selection is the 13th pick in the seventh round, via the Oakland Raiders. ...

In Clemson's season opener, Andre Ellington racked up 228 yards on the ground himself. The ballcarriers could be the difference-makers Saturday when the Seminoles and Tigers meet. (Stephen M. Dowell/Orlando Sentinel) We are now finally within that two-day window separating us from arguably the biggest game on the ACC schedule this season, and certainly one of the biggest on the conference calendar in a half-decade. No. 4 Florida State. No. 10 Clemson. This weekend, little else needs to be said. In the words of former boxing ref Mills Lane, “Let’s get it on.” At 8 p.m. Saturday, the Seminoles and Tigers will be able to do just that, and settle the early-season debate about which school has the better conference team this year. A win for FSU, particularly if it’s a win in the blowout fashion that the first three games this season have been, and the Seminoles will assert themselves as true contenders for the top three spots in the polls. With a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way, there would be no reason for them to fall out of the national title conversation for much of the year. A loss, however, and the Seminoles likely will see those dreams disappear. Their other goal, an ACC championship, might take a hit, but it will still be alive and well. In order for either team to win, they must run the football well. So far t ...
