Barnes and Noble extends Nook HD tablets promo, so, it is still cheaper than Kindle Fire HD and other rivals. Image via B&N. For a “limited time” according to the company, the Nook tablets are cheaper than its rivals like Amazon Kindle Fire HD, iPad Mini and Google’s Nexus 7 — and critics say Nook’s tablet lineup is suffering from intense competition and the only way to sell more devices is to pull the price down. Running a custom version of Google Android, Barnes and Noble can generate more revenue by adding more Nook users. The Nook HD is priced $129 for the 8GB model and $149 for the 16GB variant, while the Nook HD Plus is sporting the price tag of $149 with 16GB storage and $179 for the 32GB top-end model. Apart from Barnes and Noble’s own ecosystem, the newly updated system supports Google’s Play Store. Article by Raphael Labuguen, posted under Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Android. ...

Amazon Releases 7-Inch and 8.9-Inch Kindle Fire HD Tablets in Canada

Source: gadgetinsiders.com --- Sunday, June 16, 2013
<img src="http://gadgetinsiders.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/kindle-fire-hd-7.jpg" & width="150" & height="183" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />It’s been a while since Amazon first released its Kindle Fire HD tablets. The original Kindle Fire HD, if you remember, was released in September 2012, while its larger equivalent, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9”, hit stores a few months later. However, it’s only now that we’re seeing both tablets available in Canada, as Amazon released both slates on Friday with the promise of “the ultimate HD experience” for consumers. The Kindle Fire HD is Amazon’s second-generation Kindle Fire tablet, and improves on the features and specifications of the original 7-inch tablet that got released late in 2011. The Kindle Fire HD comes with a 7-inch, 1280 x 800 display, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, a front camera for video calling and 16 GB or 32 GB internal memory. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9”, on the other hand, has a larger size screen with full-HD (1080p) resolution, a faster dual-core processor at 1.5 GHz, a video chat camera and, once again, 16 GB or 32 GB storage as options. Both tablets ship with an operating platform based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich that can arguably be described as “pseudo-Android” due to its heavily forked nature. Pricing in Canada for the Kindle Fire HD is set at $244 for the 32 GB version, while buyers get to shell out $314 for the 32 GB Kindle Fire HD 8.9 . As usual, both tablets come with Amazon’s “Special Offers”, or advertisements to subsidize the devices’ price points, so as an extra word of c ...
