Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez suffered a strain of the trapezius muscle in his neck on May 1, and it has caused him to miss games since. The Dodgers are already dealing with a depleted bench, and their reserves and lineup just got even weaker, as first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was scratched from the lineup on Friday night against the Giants with a literal pain in his neck. Gonzalez apparently hurt his neck while bumping into an umpire on Wednesday night, per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com . If there was an opportunity for the Dodgers to unilaterally impose the designated hitter rule upon the National League, they just might do it. After all, their first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is still bothered by a muscular strain in his neck, but it doesn't really hinder his performance at the plate. Gonzalez went 2-for-4 on Saturday night in the Dodgers' 7-1 win over the Marlins , extending his hitting streak to nine games. But he also left the game after seven innings after feeling neck pain after a couple of fielding plays. "We don't know what gets him. The play where he goes to his right and gets the lead guy, that stung him. Then a swing stung him," said manager Don Mattingly. "We thought it was a good time to get him out of there. The beat kind of goes on with Adrian. He's still swinging the bat good." The score was 7-1 at the time and lifting Gonzalez was partly a precaution, and Gonzalez insists he will play again on Sunday. The Dodgers first baseman turned 31 on Wednesday, but aggravated his strained neck during Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, and left the game prior to the top of the fifth inning. Gonzalez is listed as day-to-day, and manager Don Mattingly was just hoping to avoid adding a 10th player to the current disabled list. Gonzalez was batting .340 with three home runs and 22 RBI through 30 games before Wednesday. He had just returned to the lineup with the same injury after a brief absence. Ironically, he said at the time that he skipped batting practice because he didn't want to re-aggravate the injury. The Dodgers certainly can't afford for him to miss an extended period of time. Los Angeles traded for Ramirez in July 2012. They traded for Gonzalez, Crawford, infielder Nick Punto and right-hander Josh Beckett in August. From my understanding, this unusual Topps product was not suppose to officially be out until June, but packs appear to be showing up all over the place. Heck, even David Brown of Big League Stew founds some packs at a local Dick's Sporting Goods and couldn't help but make an impulse buy. These are 3 inch cartoon-ish looking vinyl figurines of 28 of Baseball's biggest stars, and two Dodgers are included in the set - Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp. Below is an example of a pack and the Adrian Gonzalez figurine. And below is the Matt Kemp version. At first glance, they both appear to identical, but notice the placement of the gloves. They also have slightly different smiles. According to David Brown , packs include one figurine and will cost about $6.99 a piece. Also, there appears to be numerous variations available. I recently saw a Pablo Sandoval figurine that is dressed like a panda. See that here .
