Source: baseball.about.com --- Wednesday, May 15, 2013
As part of our Wednesday series re-grading big baseball trades of the past few years, let's go back to a trade from December 2010 that promised to remake the Boston Red Sox. And then a year-and-a-half later, he was dealt again. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez has been involved in two blockbuster trades in the past few years, but it's a little too early to grade the one that sent him to the Dodgers. But we can do a little bit of prognosticating based on that deal. ... Read Full Post ...

The Dodgers are already dealing with a depleted bench, and their reserves and lineup just got even weaker, as first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was scratched from the lineup on Friday night against the Giants with a literal pain in his neck. Gonzalez apparently hurt his neck while bumping into an umpire on Wednesday night, per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com . Crawford is out of the lineup for a third consecutive game with a tight right hamstring, but is available to pinch hit Friday night if needed, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times . Mark Ellis is out of the lineup for a sixth straight game with a strained right quad, and manager Don Mattingly said Ellis would be placed on the disabled list if he isn't ready by Monday, per Shaikin. But since the injury Gonzalez is hitting .421 (8-for-19) with a double, a home run, and six runs batted in, and he has a nine-game hitting streak. "That's the one thing. But even moving forward with my head up it hurts. With fly balls it's hard for me to go hard or even go comfortably." Scott Van Slyke filled in nicely at first base for Gonzalez on Sunday with a home run and an RBI single. After all, their first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is still bothered by a muscular strain in his neck, but it doesn't really hinder his performance at the plate. Gonzalez went 2-for-4 on Saturday night in the Dodgers' 7-1 win over the Marlins , extending his hitting streak to nine games. But he also left the game after seven innings after feeling neck pain after a couple of fielding plays. "We don't know what gets him. The play where he goes to his right and gets the lead guy, that stung him. Then a swing stung him," said manager Don Mattingly. "We thought it was a good time to get him out of there. The beat kind of goes on with Adrian. He's still swinging the bat good." The score was 7-1 at the time and lifting Gonzalez was partly a precaution, and Gonzalez insists he will play again on Sunday. But the neck strain continues to be a nuisance, especially in the field. Gonzalez injured the neck on May 1 against Colorado, then was scratched from the starting lineup three straight days in San Francisco, though he did deliver a pinch-hit single in the finale of the series. He left the game on Wednesday against Arizona after just four innings after aggravating the neck strain. But his hitting streak includes every game Gonzalez has played since the injury. "That's the one thing. It doesn't really bot ...

The Dodgers first baseman turned 31 on Wednesday, but aggravated his strained neck during Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, and left the game prior to the top of the fifth inning. Gonzalez is listed as day-to-day, and manager Don Mattingly was just hoping to avoid adding a 10th player to the current disabled list. More : Gonzalez leaves game after 4 innings "It didn't look too good when he came out. It sounds like he aggravated that neck pretty good. It' what we were afraid of in San Francisco, of him aggravating that with a dive," Mattingly said. "I'm not sure it's going to be good, but I'm hoping it's not going to be anything long term." The good news for Gonzalez is that while he was in the game he did go 1-for-2 with an RBI double which at the time gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. It extended his hitting streak to seven games, during which time Gonzalez is hitting .364 (8-for-22). Gonzalez leads the Dodgers in batting average (.343), hits (37), doubles (eight), RBI (23), on-base percentage (.398), slugging percentage (.500) and OPS (.898). Since joining the Dodgers last Aug. 25, Gonzalez has played in 67 of a possible 69 games, including 66 starts at first base.
Adrian Gonzalez Injury: Updates on Dodgers Star's Neck

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Wednesday, May 08, 2013
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez left Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a strained neck, according to Dodgers blogger Steve Dilbeck . Dilbeck tweeted on Wednesday: More bad news for the Dodgers, who are currently without outfielder Carl Crawford, shortstop Hanley Ramirez and starting pitchers Zack Greinke and Ted Lilly, just to name a few . Gonzalez was batting .340 with three home runs and 22 RBI through 30 games before Wednesday. He had just returned to the lineup with the same injury after a brief absence. Ironically, he said at the time that he skipped batting practice because he didn't want to re-aggravate the injury. The Dodgers certainly can't afford for him to miss an extended period of time. Los Angeles traded for Ramirez in July 2012. They traded for Gonzalez, Crawford, infielder Nick Punto and right-hander Josh Beckett in August. And they signed Greinke to a lucrative six-year, $147 million deal in the offseason. Beckett and Punto are the only ones in that group who aren't injured at the moment. Beckett's gone 0-4 this season, while posting a 5.13 ERA and 1.49 WHIP, similar to his numbers when he was with the Boston Red Sox in 2012. Punto has been one of the few bright spots, batting .361 entering Wednesday's contest. To make matters worse, the Dodgers lost Wednesday's game, 3-2. They are now 13-20, good for last place in the National League West. Perhaps money can solve th ...

Arizona catcher Wil Nieves hit a foul pop on the first base side in the fourth inning, and Gonzalez, catcher A.J. Ellis , and pitcher Clayton Kershaw converged on the play. Gonzalez appeared to call off Ellis, then made a sprawling attempt to catch the ball, but it bounced out of his glove. Gonzalez didn't appear to be favoring his neck in any way after the play, and he doubled in a run at the plate in the bottom of the inning. He did slow down rather awkwardly heading into second base, but it was unclear what, if anything was hurt. Gonzalez talked to trainers in the dugout before he was replaced in the field in the top of the fifth inning. Juan Uribe , who started the game at third base, moved to first base, and Luis Cruz entered the game at third. Gonzalez was written into the starting lineup all three games in San Francisco, but was scratched all three games with neck pain. He appeared only on the finale against the Giants on Sunday, hitting a two-run pinch single in the eighth inning. ...

These are 3 inch cartoon-ish looking vinyl figurines of 28 of Baseball's biggest stars, and two Dodgers are included in the set - Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp. Below is an example of a pack and the Adrian Gonzalez figurine. And below is the Matt Kemp version. At first glance, they both appear to identical, but notice the placement of the gloves. They also have slightly different smiles. According to David Brown , packs include one figurine and will cost about $6.99 a piece. Also, there appears to be numerous variations available. I recently saw a Pablo Sandoval figurine that is dressed like a panda. See that here . I am not aware of any Dodgers variations at this time. * Please follow on twitter @ernestreyes * * Like Dodgers Blue Heaven on facebook * * Dodgers Blue Heaven home page * ...
