Critics Choice TV Award 2013 Nominees: ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘Big Bang Theory’ Rules

The third annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards 2013 has announced its nominations with “AMERICAN HORROR Story” and “The Big Bang Theory” rules with six nominees each. With the growing popularity of Internet streaming service, this year’s nominees extents a wide range of not only network and cable’s programs, but also a Netflix show. The FX series shows its domination in Best Movie or Miniseries categories, with its stars Jessica Lange, James Cromwell, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe landing a nod each. The CBS hit sitcom is up for Best Comedy Series, going head to head with “Louie”, “The Middle”, “New Girl”, “Parks and Recreation” and “Veep”. In drama field, rookie “The Americans” enters the race for the coveted Best Drama Series title over critically-acclaimed shows “Breaking Bad”, “Downton Abbey”, “Game of Thrones”, “The Good Wife” and “Homeland”. The winners will be revealed at a June 10 awards gala in Beverly Hills to be hosted by “Parks and Recreation” star Retta. If you’ve ever seen Scream 4 , you might’ve seen Emma Roberts in a new light. She perfectly portrayed the kind of person who would be a normal teenager in one scene and a psychopath in another. The people behind AMERICAN HORROR Story: Coven must have watched her performance because she’s the latest to join the cast of the FX series’ third season. As with previous seasons, Roberts stands an equal chance of playing either a killer or a victim and it’s anyone’s guess which type of role she’ll land on. You could make assumptions based on her character’s description, but that won’t be enough to predict the insanity that is AMERICAN HORROR Story . Roberts will be playing Madison, a self-involved party girl, reported TVLine . It sounds innocent enough, ignoring the vanity that will clearly be on display in this individual, but it wouldn’t be the first time a part-girl lost her mind and killed a couple people. But we can’t forget the witch theme of this season. I’m willing to bet Madison, as party-girls tend to do, will alienate someone on a lower rung of the social ladder. Little does she know that person is a practicing witch and will cast some kind of spell on her to make her life more difficult or simply end it all together. It would certainly serve her right. AMERICAN HORROR Story Actor Joins X-Men Sequel Earlier today X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer announced that AMERICAN HORROR Story actor Evan Peters has joined the film as Quicksilver . This is big news since Quicksilver will also be in the upcoming Avengers sequel, which has been confirmed by Joss Whedon himself. Emma Roberts is set to join the cast of AMERICAN HORROR Story: Coven . The 22-year-old actress - whose Fox pilot Delirium was not picked up - is close to signing a deal to star in the third season of Ryan Murphy 's FX drama alongside her boyfriend Evan Peters, according to TVLine. Emma will join fellow newcomers Kathy Bates and Gabourey Sidibe and returning castmembers Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe. Although it will focus on witches, Ryan recently promised the third season of the show will be more upbeat than before. "It's a really cool story that we've been talking for a couple years, and this seemed to be the year to do it. What season three is about is more historical in nature. I'm also interested in getting into a HORROR romance. That's certainly something that's going to be in the water for season three. You're going to see a very different tone in season three, but that's the joy of the show.
