| Apple announced fiscal third quarter revenues of $7.46 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.07 billion, beating analyst expectations on the strength of quarterly iPhone sales in excess of 700,000 (up from 270,000 in the year-ago quarter) and iPod sales of more than 11 million (a 12 percent unit growth over a year ago). Apple added that international sales accounted for 42 percent of the quarter's revenue. However, the computing giant forecast fourth quarter revenues of $7.8 billion and earnings per diluted share of $1, both below analyst expectations. CEO Steve Jobs' health is also the subject of much discussion since he appeared at Apple's recent Worldwide Developers Conference looking gaunt. "Steve's health is a private matter," said Apple COO Tim Cook during Monday's earnings call, adding that Jobs has no plans to leave the firm. On a more upbeat note, Apple said iPhone owners have now downloaded more than 25 million applications from the App Store.
