Telstra, one of the three Australian operators to sell the iPhone, has announced their prices and plans for Apple’s phone. Vodafone and Optus should roll out their offers since July 11th is right around the corner. And 3 might be the fourth carrier to sell the 3G iPhone if they manage to strike a deal with Apple. Telstra will launch the iPhone on the Next G network which is the largest 3G network in Australia, covering 99% of the population. Like we’ve seen in Europe so far, there’s a $0 iPhone plan. All you need to do is sign up for a $80 per month plan for two years and you will get a free 8GB 3G iPhone. The 16GB version requires a $100 plan. In case you don’t want to pay that much per month, you can choose the $30 per month plan and get the 8GB version for $279 or the 16GB for $399. There’s no news on what these plans will include. The regular $100 plan for other smartphones consists in $90 of voice calls at 22c per 30 seconds and $10 of data at $2 per megabyte. That’s so much worse than a Rogers plan. The iPhone is just another phone if you don’t use its data capabilities. Sure Telstra’s hotspots might be available for free for iPhone users but that won’t make it up.
