The Arma Library Young Adult Advisory Board renamed itself the International Dork Society. But these dorks have been busy this summer. Thursday, the young adults spent the morning repainting and decorating the young adult section of the Arma Public Library in a blue-green scheme that contrasts with the gray of the surrounding library. The event was dubbed “Pimp our YA Section” by librarian Christie Wilson. That’s just the latest in a series of summer activities that have kept the young adult section in Arma not only active, but thriving. This is the first year of the young adult summer program in Arma, and the theme for the inaugural year has been “Metamorphosis at the Library”. That’s equated to several insect and creepy-crawly events. The group has watched the movie “Eight Legged Freaks,” and plans to watch “Arachnophobia” at the final program of the summer, set for 10 a.m. next Thursday in the library. But there have been other events unrelated to the theme that have had good participation. The group has had a Game Day, featuring the metamorphosis of games, beginning with cards, chess and checkers and moving to video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. There have been scavenger hunts and Starbucks book discussions. Even an Everything Chocolate program that dipped plenty of edibles in chocolate.
