Windsor man accidentally runs over young son (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/09/15/BAS712UG0D.DTL) *(09-15) 16:14 PDT SANTA ROSA* -- A Windsor man accidentally struck and injured his 2-year-old son when the boy broke from his mother's grasp as he was pulling into a driveway in his truck, authorities said today. Christian Jaskela suffered major injuries in the accident, which happened about 5 p.m. Sunday as his father, Wayde Jaskela, 32, was maneuvering his Chevrolet Silverado truck through a private gated driveway on Moorland Avenue in Santa Rosa, the California Highway Patrol said. As the boy's mother grasped Christian's hand and held the gate open, the boy ran from her, stumbled and fell in front of the left rear wheel of the truck, the CHP said. Christian was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Children's Hospital Oakland, where he was reported to be in good condition, said hospital spokeswoman Diana Yee. CHP Officer Barbara Upham said young children tend to become excited and "want to run to see mom and dad, and they don't realize that it's unsafe." This year, children have been run over and killed by parents in Oakland, San Jose and Pittsburg. On Aug. 31, a Fremont woman accidentally struck and injured her 8-year-old son while backing out of her driveway. ...
