LITTLE FALLS POST 7, HERKIMER POST 2 LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — A little extra work to get the field ready Tuesday night paid off for Little Falls Post 31. Dan Wiecek threw a no-hitter and pitched Little Falls Post into the Herkimer County championship series with a 7-2 victory over Herkimer Post 38 at Veterans Memorial Park. Heavy rain in the middle of the afternoon led the teams initially to postpone the game until Wednesday. When the weather cleared as quickly as it had soured, the game was back on and got under way about 40 minutes after its original scheduled start time. Wiecek was dominant from the start. He set the side down in order in the top of the first inning and had a 2-0 lead before taking the ball back out to the mound to pitch the second. He struck out nine Herkimer Post batters, three of them looking, while walking one in the fifth inning and hitting another in the second. The no-hitter followed a three-hit, five-inning shutout of Herkimer Post in Wiecek’s last start Friday. “As the innings went by I seemed to get a little looser,” said Wiecek who played on a state championship team at Fort Plain High School last spring and won a regional playoff game this spring to put the Hilltoppers back in the Class C Final Four.
