The wildfires that are blazing through California are not only dangerous, but they are very resource-intensive. The cost of containing and fighting these fires is getting out of hand. The U.S. House has just passed a piece of legislation designed to address the cost of fighting emergency wildfires. The Federal Land Assistance, Management and Enhancement (FLAME) Act, H.R. 5541, provides a source of funding for emergency fires and dictates a plan for paying back any funds that are borrowed from other programs.
