Kudos to Joe Palladino of the Waterbury Republican for going to Hartford Golf Club Wednesday to write a column on the U.S. Girls' Junior Golf Championship. He's the first local media member other than someone from The Courant to show up at one of the U.S. Golf Association's 13 national championship. That's an embarrassment for the press and an insult to the USGA and Hartford GC, which raised $400,000 and has hundreds of volunteers donating their time to the event and the girls, most of whom would embarrass a lot of male adult golfers, especially writers and radio and TV folks, wherever the latter are. The 156 starters --- and especially many of the 64 who qualified for match play --- are the true future stars of the game and will be on the LPGA Tour, competing against Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel, whose younger sister, Madison, is playing at Hartford GC and won a first-round match for the first time. Let's hope even more spectators and someone else from the media shows up before the tournament ends Saturday ... or Sunday ... or (don't even think about). ...
