Reader karindalziel uses multiple desktops with activity-themed wallpapers to help keep each desktop organized and streamlined for that activity. Her setup uses five different wallpapers like so: "Read" - pretty self explanatory "Write" - Blog posts, papers, etc. "Draw" - All manner of art related activity, including photo manipulation, illustrations, etc. "Build" - this is for programming (I'm just learning) "Get" - for BitTorrent, file transfers, etc. (This computer is also my file server for the house) As she explains, the idea is to keep distinct activities contained within distinct desktops. To get a better idea of how it works in practice, check out those five desktops in use (with notes). You may not need distinct wallpaper to separate activities into different desktops (see the context-configured desktop ), but as a devout virtual desktop user, I love the idea.
