U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg officially kicked off his re-election bid for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District seat Friday at NextDiesel’s biodiesel fuel facility in Adrian, calling for the support of alternative energy and less dependence on foreign sources of fuels. “We’re fighting for the health, security and prosperity of the place we call home and the people we call friends and family,” he said. Jason Eisenberg, NextDiesel’s marketing and sales director, said he was honored by the Tipton Republican’s presence and speech at the company, which recently observed its plant’s first anniversary of operation. “Congressman Walberg has been aggressive in his campaign for alternative fuels,” Eisenberg said. “With people like Congressman Walberg in Washington fighting for us, we are well on our way.” Guest speakers at Friday’s kickoff included Adrian College President Jeffrey Docking, State Sen. Cameron Brown and Jim Van Doren, chairman of the Lenawee County Commission. Walberg appeared before a small group of supporters holding a gas can with a clipboard attached. He encouraged the audience to appeal to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to allow the party to make statements about proposed energy bills that they said could help reduce gas prices.
