The waiting is the hardest part. Sure, playing a pressure-packed postseason round of golf in less-than-ideal conditions can be nerve -wracking. But for most of the competitors and spectators at a high school golf match, the most gut-wrenching moments come when everyone is gathered 'round the scoreboards. Watching, waiting, counting, counting again and recounting the posted results in an effort to predict which players will joyfully advance to the next round or which ones will sadly pack away their clubs until next season. All but one of the Journal Star-area entrants at Monday's Class AA girls Galesburg Sectional fell on the wrong side of the cut lines. Abby Ferlmann, a junior at Notre Dame, shot 12-over 83 at Lake Bracken Country Club and was among the top eight individuals not on an advancing team to make it to the state finals. Ferlmann, who survived two triple bogeys to finish on the cut line, became the first girls golfer in the 20-year history of the school to represent Notre Dame in the state finals. "I really don't know what to think," Ferlmann said of her accomplishment. "But it's a huge relief because ever since last year it's been getting at me that I want to go to state."
