This Sunday marks the WWE’s fifth try at The Great American Bash. An event rich with WCW history has been scarred by the WWE with some of the worst pay-per-views of the decade. Will Sunday’s show be reminiscent of the Bash 89 or the Bash 04? It looks like the fifth time could be the charm. I like the lineup on paper for this Sunday’s show. The WWE has two fresh main-events, and a strong undercard. For the first time in several years, The Great American Bash has meaning for WWE fans. While it is highly unlikely we will see anything reminiscent of Ric Flair vs. Terry Funk, The Great American Bash has a lot of potential. Batista vs. CM Punk for the WWE world heavyweight Title – This is actually Batista’s third WWE title main-event out of five Bashes. Batista will return to the role of challenger once again with a much different opponent. Win or lose, let’s hope for a better match than his Triple Threat Match last year vs. Kane and Great Khali. This one is a toss up on a lot of levels. If you would follow booking logic, it looks like CM Punk is retaining the title. Batista laid out Punk on Monday and was the last man standing. Rarely does the loser get a double burial, unless he is leaving the company. However, Randy Orton and Triple H broke this rule of thumb two shows ago.
