TROY — What a difference two days makes. The Warrior Run Major Division softball team had a familiar opponent on Friday in the Section 3 elimination final. Troy had beaten the District 13 champions 9-5 in the first round of section play. And although the game featured the same players, and even the same starting pitchers, Friday’s game provided more of a chess match than a slugfest and this time Warrior Run came out on top. With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh Taylor Parker stole home on a passed ball to propel her team into today’s championship series. Warrior Run takes on Minersville at 5 p.m. at Alparon Park in Troy in a rematch of the 2006 9-10 Division Section 3 final. Warrior Run will need a win today and another on Sunday to claim the Section 3 banner and the state-tourney berth. Since both teams had seen each other recently and Steff Shamburg and Tiffani Mattocks were throwing very specific pitches to batters throughout the game. When the ball was hit the defenses were more than up to the task registering several spectacular plays. Warrior Run first-baseman Jackie Clemens turned a difficult first to third double play in the top of the third to end the inning and shortstop Courtney Stahl made an impressive diving catch in the fourth. “I was thinking everything,” said Stahl. “My gram passed away (recently) and I thought, ‘this game was for her.’” Stahl was also motivated by one of the Warrior Run parents. ...
