 The game on the field was befitting of a championship Monday night. Warrior Run and Minersville met in Oval after being rained out Sunday for the final game of the Section 3 Championship. Warrior Run beat Minersville 6-1 Saturday to force the winner-take-all game. But Minersville turned the tables Monday and took advantage of its chances beating the District 13 champions 3-2 in seven innings to advance to the Western Division State Tournament in Indiana. In the top of the first inning, Reilly Malochick led off with a double but the Warrior Run defense quickly took hold as Laura Bastian threw out the next batter at first and Steff Shamburg struck out the next two batters in order. In the bottom of the inning, Lynn Vermilya reached on a walk and Taylor Parker and Shamburg each hit singles to load the bases. All three were left stranded, however, when the next two batters didn’t get the ball out of the infield. Warrior Run kept its defense tight in the second retiring the batters in order. Shamburg fanned the first and third batters while Parker pounced from the catcher’s position on a bunt to throw the second batter out at first. In the bottom of the second, Courtney Stahl reached on an error. She stole second to get in scoring position but wasn’t able to beat the tag at the plate on the Devin Nicholas single.
