OK, so this has a snowball's chance in hell at happening, but it needs to be said. Daytona International Speedway needs to be included in NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup. Some way. Somehow. NASCAR needs to make this a reality. This is change we can believe in. Sure, restrictor-plate racing is unpredictable and doesn't represent the majority of racing that occurs on the Sprint Cup tour. But there is no denying it's the most exciting form of auto racing today and NASCAR fans can't get enough of it. How can you not include NASCAR's premier racing facility in that mix? Replace Talladega if you must. Replace Homestead if you can. But let's find some way to get Daytona and it's superspeedway thrills involved in this Chase for the Sprint Cup. Now, I know this: Drivers won't support such a bold suggestion. There are too many variables out of their control at superspeedways. The difference between first and 43rd is minute. Stress levels soar. Tempers flare. Wrecks create chaos, danger and disgust. But NASCAR's champion should be crowned at Daytona. Not Homestead. Or New Hampshire. Or cookie-cutter Kansas Speedway. I've thought this way for a while, and after watching Sunday's Amp Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, I'm completely convinced that Daytona should play a key -- if not final role -- in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup picture. ...
