Three weeks ago, the Wellsville girls needed overtime to squeak out a 3-2 win over Bath-Haverling. Tuesday afternoon, it looked like one or both of the schools must have brought a different team. The final score, 2-0 Wellsville, does not come close to describing the dominance exhibited by the home team, which kept the ball in the Lady Rams’ defensive zone for all but about three minutes in the first half, and then did not let up much in the second. Mariam Vonderheide picked up her team-leading 12th goal to make it 1-0 midway through a half that saw the Lady Lions outshoot their guests 13-1, and Cortni Monroe finished off with a determined solo effort for her seventh of the season with 15 minutes left in the game. And in between, Ram keeper Hannah Conrad stayed very, very busy. “The second half we played a little better,” said B-H coach Tuesday Mishook, “but the first half we were definitely a little lethargic — to put it nicely. Sure, we’re coming off Homecoming Weekend and a lot of activities, but at the end of the day, that’s not an excuse. You’ve got a schedule, and you know when your games are, and that you’ve got to be prepared for it. That said, though, Wellsville came out guns a blazin’ in that first half.
