Peter Skerritt in his July 26 Letter to the Editor wrote "No police department enforces handicap parking violations. ..." Both the Sparks and Reno police departments enforce handicapped parking laws and issue citations. In both departments, the enforcement is conducted by citizen volunteers who are trained for this patrol assignment. In Sparks, there are approximately 100 citizens in the volunteer program, 20 of whom are part of the Handicapped Parking Enforcement Program. Parking enforcement teams patrol all parts of the city of Sparks, and do issue citations. ...
