(Telecompaper) Vodafone has won a court case against the UK tax service, meaning the mobile operator is not liable for UK corporation tax on earnings from its Luxembourg subsidiary. The High Court ordered Revenue & Customs to close the inquiry into Vodafone's 2001 tax return after ruling that it would be unlawful to apply UK tax rates to the foreign subsidiary, reports the Financial Times. The Luxembourg unit was set up as part of Vodafone's 1999 acquisition of Mannesmann and was used for financing.
