The Waverly Village Board of Trustees Tuesday heard many questions and concerns regarding the plans outlined by the village hall and the village hall options committees, and now Mayor Kyle McDuffee is expressing his own. McDuffee is questioning the accuracy of the figures presented by the village hall committee that reduced the 2005 Crawford and Stearns calculated $2 million project cost to $1.5 million, with a possible $1 million available in grant funding. In speaking about the $108,000 figure for the renovation of the truck bay, McDuffee said, “I don’t even know if that’s going to touch it.” McDuffee’s statement was supported from previous consultation with a Delta Engineering representative who stated that electrical upgrades alone could cost nearly $200,000. “We can’t give false figures to people,” said McDuffee. “These are professionals doing these reports.” McDuffee did praise the public’s interest in the issue with the many questions they posed Tuesday. “These people have been doing their homework,” said McDuffee. “They’ve been looking hard into the issue and the people are attuned as to what is going on.” With the public having weighed in, he added that the village is on the right track with the issue as they progress to discussion regarding issues raised, then move toward referendum.
