A long wait came to an end for many Cape Cod Healthcare employees Wednesday. After the healthcare organization management announced 169 layoffs Monday, members of United Healthcare Workers East, Local 1199 were told if their jobs would be affected. “All conversations with folks involved with this workforce reduction will be completed by the end of the day today,” said CCHC spokesman David Reilly Wednesday morning. Jerry Fishbein, vice president of Local 1199, said they have begun the 30-day negotiation period for the 76 union positions slated for elimination. The remainder of the job cuts will be among non-union employees. “We’ve been notified of a number of potential layoffs – a total of 35 positions at Cape Cod Hospital, 25 at Falmouth Hospital and an additional three positions at Cape Cod Human Services,” Fishbein said. Thirteen earlier layoffs announced in June are also included in the 76 union positions cut from the organization. “Some of these positions are vacant positions so it’s not clear how many individuals will be impacted. That’s the kind of thing we’ll be working on now,” Fishbein said. He said those let go are records clerks, dietary workers, people in environmental services, housekeepers and radiology management.
