TEXAS RANGERS BLOG ...

Just left manager Ron Washington's office. Had a lively afternoon conversation mostly about the state of the Rangers starting rotation. Gotta say this: For a guy who could be starting four first-year starters against the AL West leaders this coming Monday, he looked remarkably chipper. Hey, what else can you do? The rotation is beaten up and, well, it was never expected to be one of the league's strongest anyway. Here's what you need to know. Eric Hurley (hamstring) and Vicente Padilla (neck) are very questionable for the Tuesday-Wednesday starts against the Angels. Padilla's neck was still sore today. He will try to throw a bullpen tomorrow, but if that doesn't go well, don't expect to see him this week. If Padilla can't start, one option the club is considering: Move Hurley back to Wednesday to give him an extra day of rest and call up. ... wait for it ... Matt Harrison. So, it's possible the Rangers rotation against the Angels would be: Luis Mendoza (making his seventh career major league start) against Ervin Santana on Monday; Matt Harrison (making his major league debut) against Joe Saunders on Tuesday; Eric Hurley (making his fifth career start) vs. Jered Weaver on Wednesday; and Scott Feldman (making his 14th career start) vs. John Lackey Thursday. And if Hurley can't go? Well, good luck with that. ...
