| Vermont Moose Hunt Auction Nets over $22,000 for Wildlife Education 7/31/08 Waterbury, Vermont - Vermont's third annual auction of five moose hunting permits closed on July 28, with more than $22,000 taken in to help fund Fish & Wildlife educational programs, such as the Green Mountain Conservation Camps for 12 to 16 year old youths. Seven bids ranging from $401 to $5,582 were submitted from people as far away as Virginia. Bids do not include the cost of a hunting license ($20 for residents and $90 for nonresidents) or hunting permit fee ($100 for residents and $350 for nonresidents). Auction winners were as follows: Eric DeWolfe, Hopkinton, MA - bid $5,582 Donald Davis, Claremont, NH - bid $5,500 Michael Gleason, Berlin, MA - bid $4,750 William Meyers, Colrain, MA - bid $4,371.18 Gary Haines, Stafford, VA - bid $2,225 Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department scientists have prescribed that 1,260 moose hunting permits be issued for the hunting season to be held October 18-23 and October 25-November 2. Less than 1 percent of the moose hunting permits were available for auction. Other permits were issued in a lottery drawing on July 10. Lottery winners are posted in a searchable database on the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department's website (www.vtfishandwildlife.com).
