| A day after removing himself from the LSU search (knowing that Trent Johnson was about to take the job), Ford reportedly makes his way to Providence's campus, according to this Fox Sports report : Providence has offered its men's basketball job to UMass coach Travis Ford, FOXSports.com has learned. Ford, 38, a candidate at LSU prior to a new athletic director being brought on board last week, was on campus at Providence on Wednesday afternoon. UMass was a senior-laden team (Forbes and Brower, anyway). So it didn't have a lot to gain by playing deep into the NIT Tournament -- other than positioning itself to lose its head coach. Two decades ago, Providence proved to be the launching pad for Rick Pitino's career when he took the Friars to the Final Four. Now, maybe one of his former UK players can try to pull the same trick, albeit in a vastly different college landscape. ... |
