Here it is, in typical Marty fashion: After my very slightly infamous SMX Advanced "Give It Up" presentation included the "Soy Candle" approach to extending powerful social media profiles to the advantage of SEO ( download .ppt here ), I had the pleasure of chatting up the tactic with Matt Cutts, Google's anti-spam officer. Matt didn't think much of naming social media profiles on competitive mid-tail keywords and using psychologists to profile corporate brand ambassadors replete with deep personality traits. Go figure... Whilst the always- affable Mr. Cutts politely indicated that he did not consider the technique "spam," he categorized it as " social engineering ," a phrase that harkens back to Hitler by some interpretations. Ok then... when I was subtly embellishing my Yahoo! Personals profile to get a date, I didn't realize I was going down the road towards becoming a next-gen social media Nazi.
