Embezzlement from campaign funds seems to be a growing problem. The biggest case at the moment comes out of the National Republican Congressional Committee whose treasurer since 2003, Chistropher J. Ward, was fired and has come under investigation from the FBI involving millions of dollars. Today the Times reports that "some time within the next month" Ward's actions will be detailed in a major forensic audit that the NRCC hired a major accounting firm to conduct.
