For Rolling Ridge Conference Center on Great Pond Road, it’s by implementing cutting edge technology that will save energy while preserving the charm and beauty of the historic buildings and grounds. Rev. Larry Peacock, the conference center’s executive director, is determined to conduct the proposed expansion and renovation of the center in an environmentally responsible manner. He wants to be a good steward to the beautiful 38-acre estate for spiritual reasons as well as practical ones. “I think a lot of people find their connection to God and The Divine in nature, and I think that’s important,” says Peacock. “Preserving nature and caring for it provides places for people to experience One who is greater than themselves.” Rolling Ridge has gone through several phases over the years but remains a pastoral paradise. The historic estate, featuring a 40-room Georgian mansion, served as a youth center for a number of years, but has increasingly become a retreat for adults seeking spiritual renewal. “Now it’s becoming a retreat for adults — people looking for a quiet place for rest and reflection and groups looking for a unique meeting place on 38 gorgeous acres,” says Peacock.
