Whilst Elvis had left the building after Tuesday night's big welcome bash, Wednesday morning saw Team PokerRoom.com back on deck for the first big day trip out to the Hoover Dam. Sunglasses were certainly the order of the day, perhaps to hide tired eyes more than for protection from the sun, but with the temperature again soaring over 100F by early morning we were certainly in for another scorcher. Sunglasses Were The Order Of The Day After a short bus side south-east towards the Arizona border, the team unloaded and headed inside the facility to see if the dam really was that big. Whilst the claim in the video presentation that it's construction was the greatest engineering feat since the pyramids may have seemed a little indulgent, the dam certainly was extremely impressive and quite amazing considering that the construction began all the way back in 1931. The huge concrete dam diverts the Colorado River through a maze of 480 miles of pipes and into the massive turbines that generate enough electricity to satisfy the needs of over 1.3 million American's across Nevada, Arizona, and California. That's A Lot Of Concrete! The players all got a guided tour of the facility which provided plenty of good photo op's and took the players 580 feet below ground to check out all the wonders of hydro electricity. After some good ol' American style hamburgers and fries for lunch in the sanctity of the air conditioned Hoover Dam Restaurant it was time ...
