| MSSU baseball team adds two junior college transfers The Missouri Southern volleyball team has been named one of just 39 NCAA Division II schools to win the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. To be eligible for the honor, a team must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA. In total, a record 353 schools in NCAA Division's I, II and III, as well as the NAIA and high schools earned the honor, up from the previous high of 308 set last year. Southern was one of three MIAA schools on the list, joining Central Missouri and Nebraska-Omaha. Nine Lions had GPA's of over 3.0 last year, including seven with a 3.397 or higher. Lance, Owens added to 2008 Missouri Southern baseball roster Missouri Southern baseball coach Bryce Darnell has announced the addition of Carter Lance and Trent Owens to his 2009 roster. Lance, a 6-4 right handed pitcher, transfers to Southern after two years at Connors State College, leading Connors to a 48-19 record last season. The Conway, Ark., native went 4-1 with 43 strikeouts and 10 walks in 48 innings pitched. A 2006 graduate of Conway High School, Lance was a four year starter on the baseball team, while starting one year at quarterback for the football team. Undecided on his major, Lance is the son of Tim and Linda Lance. Owens, a 5-10 catcher, transfers to Southern after two years at Independence Community College where he was a teammate of another addition to the Lions roster, Justin Beale, ... |
