| The Sudanese army is hunting for suspected Darfur rebels in the capital Khartoum after insurgents fighting for the Darfur Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) launched a surprise attack on the capital at the weekend. The Sudanese authorities also arrested opposition leader Hassan al-Turabi, on suspicion of collaborating with the rebels but released him shortly afterwards. The leader of the JEM rebels, Khalil Ibrahim, has announced that his group will continue to attack until President Omar Hassan al-Bashir's government fell. Khartoum broke off diplomatic ties with Chad on Sunday after accusing it of training and arming the rebels. The Chadian government has denied the accusation and N'Djamena has closed its border with Sudan in response to Khartoum's move. ... |
