| Spirit AeroSystems has won the largest contract in the company's brief history and will open a plant in North Carolina to accommodate the new work. Spirit will design and build the center fuselage section of the Airbus A350 XWB at a plant in Kinston, N.C. Spirit chairman and chief executive Jeff Turner said the contract is valued at $2.7 billion over the life of the program, a record deal for the Wichita company, which was created in 2005. "We have and will continue to develop our network of design-build capabilities around the world," Turner said. "A win for one place is a win for every place because of the way we share resources." Portions of the work on the composite section will be done in Wichita and at Spirit's new facility in Malaysia, which will open next year.
