| South Africa's largest transport union, the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union, is threatening to prevent a Chinese ship from delivering weapons and munitions to Zimbabwe. The ship, moored outside the port of Duban, is waiting to be unloaded, but union members refuse as they fear President Robert Mugabe could use the ordnance against the Zimbabwean people and they do not want South Africa to be party to a bloodbath. South African President Thabo Mbeki is mediating between its neighbour's government and the opposition. The unions have criticised President Mbeki's leniency towards Harare. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai agrees and called for Mr Mbeki to stand down as mediator on Thursday. ... |
