Hoping to make a smooth transition between outgoing and incoming superintendents, School Committee members met Friday to make sure nothing gets lost during the upcoming shuffle of administrations. During the special public meeting at Waltham High School, Mayor Jeannette McCarthy joined available committee members Robert Cincotta and Harold Walker to discuss the transition of outgoing Superintendent Susan Parrella and incoming Superintendent Peter Azar. Parrella announced earlier this year she would leave her position in August. Her contract expires Aug. 16 and her last day of work is expected to be Aug. 15. She has headed district since 1998. Former Winchendon School Superintendent Peter Azar was selected as the new superintendent of Waltham schools on June 18. Azar was named superintendent of Winchendon schools in 2004. Earlier this year the Winchendon School Committee voted not to renew his contract. Pending a final contract, Azar is expected to begin his first day of work as the new superintendent on Aug. 18. In the interim, Azar is being hired on as a consultant to begin learning about the district. From Aug. 4 to 8 Azar will review contracts and study the school improvement plan, among other things, in preparation of his new position.
