posted by jess3781 Maria Sharapova is the leader of the Russian Tennis Team that will be participating in Beijing next month. Sharapova has dreamed about playing at the Olympics since she was a little girl and during the past month she has said repeatedly how exiting she is about fulfilling this long dream of hers. On August 8th the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ceremony will take place and Maria Sharapova wanted to be the flag-bearer during the parade where each and every country will be participating but Russian Officials have rejected Maria Sharapova's request. "She wanted to be a flag-bearer but I advised against it, I don't want her to spend three or four hours in hot weather waiting to march in the opening ceremony. We want her to be fresh, not tired, during her matches." Russian tennis chief Shamil Tarpishchev said. Shamil also reported that Maria Sharapova doesn't want to stay at the athletes village during the Games because she said it's very noisy there and that she needed plenty of rest between matches so Maria will stay in a hotel. "That's not a problem for us and we will book a hotel room for them, the problem might be the traffic and transportation from the hotel to the tennis venue and back," Tarpishchev concluded. But Sharapova is not the only one refusing to stay at the village, Elena Dementieva also turned down a chance to stay there. Maria Sharapova will lead the Russian women's tennis team in China.
