Radiohead startled the music world by making its album "In Rainbows" available online last year for whatever fans were willing to pay. Nine Inch Nails has expanded upon the British band's model, releasing a cascade of new music this year, charging fans for some of it and making some of it available for free. Is it a new model for the music industry? Hard to say yet. It is, however, the subject of our latest podcast. Stephen Busemeyer, Elizabeth Zuhl and I talk about NIN's "Ghosts I-IV" (the for-pay project) and "The Slip" (which Trent Reznor, pictured above, made available for free), and what they mean for a music business that continues to flounder. Previous podcasts are archived here , and are available via the iTunes store (search on "Hartford Courant."). As always, comments are welcome. Also, read Jon Pareles' recent story about Nine Inch Nails in The New York Times. Download Podcast -- Nine Inch Nails (Photo by Rob Sheridan) ...
