| Billionaire Nelson Peltz recently made news after his Triarc, which owns Arby's, wolfed down the Wendy's hamburger chain. Now he's taken a taste of Starbucks , and the markets are wondering whether the coffee empire will be his next conquest. Shares of the coffee chain have been struggling, with shares ( SBUX/Nasdaq ) down about 40% over the past 12 months. News of the Peltz interest sparked a 3% pop in the stock on Friday. Could it be that Peltz has a turnaround plan percolating in the back of his mind? Consumer are his forté, after all. In addition to Arby's and Wendy's, Peltz holds board seats with H.J. Heinz Co. and Kraft Foods, and has forced Cadbury Schweppes to spin off its soda unit.
Actually, a takeover would be a long shot — at least for now. Trian
disclosed ownership of 898,500 Starbucks shares in a March 31
