Ty Kaufman’s first and only year of opposition for the office of county attorney proved to be negative. Kaufman, who has held the office of McPherson County Attorney since 1985, had faced no opposition during his previous 23 years in office. Local attorney and challenger David Page won the primary election Tuesday by 351 votes, earning 55.6 percent of the total votes. Page led Kaufman after the first precinct votes were announced and held a stable lead the rest of the night. Kaufman said he was happy for Page and had no regrets for the way he ran the office. “It’s been a good run,” Kaufman said of his time as county attorney. “I have no regrets and I make no apologies for the way I ran the office.” Page, who previously worked in the county attorney’s office under Kaufman, said he knew the race would be  a tough one. Both candidates spent hundreds of hours going door-to-door and talking to people throughout McPherson County. According to documents filed with the McPherson County Clerk’s office, Page reported $1,303.59 in expenditures and other disbursements for his campaign. Kaufman’s filing indicate he had $2,251.10 in expenditures, nearly $1,000 more than Page. Kaufman ran on a platform of experience and past success.
