| The police officer who was seriously wounded in a shooting Friday night in west Wichita has been moved out of intensive care at a local hospital and is "on his way to recovery." He is "doing well," said Capt. Joe Dessenberger, commander of the Patrol West bureau. The officer's family issued a statement of gratitude Tuesday through the Police Department: "We would like to thank everyone who has been there for our son and our family. The quick actions of the officers on the scene and all the other emergency personnel saved his life, and for that we will forever be grateful. "Thanks, also, to the great trauma team and the care he is receiving at Via Christi. He is in good spirits and on his way to recovery. Please keep our son and all the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect and serve us in your prayers." ... |
