Barack Obama’s plan to visit Florida next already has unleashed the pent-up enthusiasm of Democrats hungry to regain the White House. But he has much to overcome to win the state’s 27 electoral votes. Supporters say he will sound the unifying themes that have brought him to the brink of the Democratic nomination for president, plus some special messages tailored to Floridians. To senior citizens, he will promise to protect Social Security. To Jewish leaders, he will promise to help safeguard Israel. To Cuban-Americans, he is expected to call for a new policy to allow them to visit their families in Cuba and send as much money as they want. He faces determined opposition from Republicans as well as conflicted feelings from supporters of Hillary Clinton, who still hope she will become the first woman president. ``The emotions here are running very strong,’’ said Marvin Manning, 82, president of the Democratic Club of Century Village West in Boca Raton. He estimates that nine-tenths of the nearly 5,000 Democrats in his village voted for Clinton in the state’s Jan. 29 primary. Obama, a 46-year-old rising star, must close a generation gap to have a chance to win Florida, he said. ``People are starting to rally around,’’ Manning said. ``The candidate has to face us, speak to the issues that are very, very sensitive to us and develop a zone of comfort that says yes, he can do the job.’’ Obama, favored by younger voters in D ...
