Barack Obama has been saying he's not against guns and won't take them away from individuals (see here and here ). But haunting him from the past is his history.  As Politico reports , Obama sat on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation (links original): The foundation funded legal scholarship advancing the theory that the Second Amendment does not protect individual gun owners’ rights, as well as two groups that advocated handgun bans. And it paid to support a book called “Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handguns .” And: [T]he Joyce Foundation in 1999 awarded $84,000 to the Chicago-Kent College of Law for a symposium on the theory that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual’s right to bear arms, but rather only a state’s right to arm its militia. Obama was on the board in 1999. Apparently the foundation hasn't changed its opinions on guns: according to its website, in 2007 the Joyce Foundation gave $700,000 to the Violence Policy Center , one of the most virulent anti-gun groups (Obama left the foundation in 2002).  But while he was on the board, the foundation gave more than $2.5 million to the Violence Policy Center. Did Obama know about the Joyce Foundation's anti-gun stance?  Be hard not to as he had to vote on grants to the anti-gun organizations.  And: As with most foundations, Joyce did not record how individual board members voted on grants, but ...
