| Port Huron Northern High School principal Craig Dahlke is taking a leave of absence to be with his wife while she battles cancer.
In a letter sent to parents, Dahlke said his wife, Chris, has multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, and will undergo a stem-cell transplant at the end of the month.
Dahlke's leave starts today and is for the remainder of the year. He will return as principal next fall.
Assistant Principal Charles Mossett will take the lead administrative role at the high school in Dahlke's absence. History teacher Jeff Davis will fill Mossett's spot as assistant principal. Substitute teacher Adam Hosking will cover Davis' classes.
"I think everybody's concerned for Chris and wishes the best for her, and that's the focus," Mossett said. "I think (the district is) confident that there's enough leadership in the administrative team and the staff, and kids aren't going to notice the difference."
Hosking already is assigned to substitute at Port Huron Northern High School and knows the students well, said Port Huron Area School District Superintendent Thomas Shorkey. ... |
