A manhunt commenced near Tecumseh Monday afternoon after three men approached a home in what appeared to be a near burglary. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Kurt Shirey said a woman who lives just outside the Tecumseh city limits was home about 12:30 p.m. when a man knocked on her front door. “She didn’t answer the door — she didn’t know him,” Shirey said. The man stayed on her porch for about five minutes. When she looked out to see if he was leaving, Shirey said the woman noticed the man made a motion for two other men to approach the home. The woman called authorities, Shirey said, then noticed the three men were at her back door. Before they could do anything, sirens were approaching and the men fled on foot. Sheriff’s deputies, assisted by Tecumseh police, tracked down two of the three men and detained them for a short period of time, he said. A plane from Oklahoma City assisted in the search for the third man, but the thick brush provided zero visibility and the search was called off, he said. Because a crime hadn’t been committed, deputies ended up releasing the two suspects they detained. “We had nothing to charge them with,” Shirey said, although he said deputies feel it was likely the suspects’ intent to burglarize the home. No injuries were reported. ——— Kim Morava may be reached at 214-3962 or kimberly.morava@news-star.com. ...
