A forthcoming book reports that when televangelist and Liberty University founder Jerry Falwell died last May , he did so having lost most of his multi-million dollar fortune on a bad real estate deal. Forbes reporter Dirk Smillie writes in Falwell, Inc. that Falwell had sunk $20 million into building Liberty Village– a “Christian community” atop Chandler’s Mountain near Lynchburg, complete with 1,135 homes, a movie theater, a chapel, and a supermarket.
