New York City has a real spring every year and the flowers were out, spirits were high, Wall Street back in gear and the Clintons on the campaign trail. I visited friends in Chappaqua, where they live, and we drove by their relatively modest ranch home which was populated by Secret Service agents and their cars. Hillary may hope to capture the candidacy from Obama, but events occurring in another part of her state -- the Queens borough of New York City -- underscore her impossible ambition. On Friday, Reverend Al Sharpton warned about violence and the city braced for violence, or disruption, after a court acquitted three cops of killing an African-American man leaving a strip club stag party the night before his wedding. The cops -- two of which were African-American themselves -- were absolved of manslaughter or intent to kill but they murdered the guy with a rain of 50 bullets without any justification for doing so, except panic. It was dark and somebody thought there might be a gun. All the usual suspects were exorcised including Sharpton who threatened to shut down the city. He was able to organize a sizeable protest. There was lots of anger and the ranting reverend blasted the system of justice, blaming it for discrimination and victimization.
