| The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, Inc. (HAWS) is suspending canine operations until further notice, the shelter has announced. The dog kennel has been closed to intake of new animals, visiting hours and adoptions at this time. However, cats and other small animals are not affected.
"We are dealing with an unknown illness that has affected a few of the dogs in our care, and we need to take this precaution for the safety of our community's dog population," Executive Director Lynn Olenik. says in a release.
Olenik says Waukesha County residents who find a stray dog should continue as they would normally - housing arrangements for those dogs are being confirmed at this time. Anyone who needs to surrender dogs are being asked to wait, or contact Elmbrook Humane Society (262-782-9261) and Washington County Humane Society (262-677-4388), groups who have agreed to assist. ... |
