 On Friday, Quincy Sen. Michael Morrissey and Rep. Bruce Ayers will work alongside Squantum residents and members of the Robert I. Nickerson American Legion Post to collect supplies for troops overseas. Local military families have made arrangements to provide a truck that will be part of the 99th annual Squantum Fourth of July parade. People aboard the truck will collect donations. The parade starts at 10 a.m. “I am happy that we were able to organize this event to give back to our troops,” Morrissey said. “While we celebrate our nation’s freedom, it is important to recognize those who defend us every day.” Squantum has at least five families with members on active duty overseas. Items may also be brought to the Legion post from 3 to 10 p.m. today. The post is at 20 Moon Island Road in Squantum. Checks can also be sent to the Robert I. Nickerson Troop Fund, 20 Moon Island Road, Squantum 02171. “Packages from home provide a great morale boast and show our local troops that we care and are always thinking of them,” Ayers said. ... |
