American telecom equipment vendor, Juniper Networks Inc., has named Kevin Johnson, a senior Microsoft executive, as its new CEO, effective in September. Johnson, who served as president of Microsoft’s platform and services division until his departure on Wednesday, will replace Scott Kriens, who has led Juniper for the past 12 years. Kriens will stay on the company’s board of directors, remaining active in overseeing leadership and development programs. After becoming CEO, Johnson will be responsible for selecting a new Chief Operating Officer, a position which has been vacant since January, when Stephen Elop left Juniper to head Microsoft’s business division. Juniper generates most of its revenue providing high-performance routers to telecom service providers, and has recently expanded into the market for corporate Ethernet switches, putting it in more direct competition with larger rival, Cisco Systems Inc. ...
