I know what I'm buying my friends and family for the holidays. Thanks to Laura over at Required Elements , she alerted us to Sports Illustrated: Athlete (Sports Illustrated) , a book of photos recently published by noted sports photographer Walter Iooss Jr. The compilation of 150 images shows all our favorite sports icons, from Michael Jordan (who wrote the forward), Steffi Graf, Serena Williams, Lance Armstrong, Kobe Bryant, Michelle Kwan ( see above ), and many others, in posed as well as unguarded moments. Doesn't Michelle look absolutely ethereal in the photo? I'm so used to seeing photos of skaters at a rink, on the ice, against a bright background, while performing a jump or spin. It's striking to see Michelle holding this beautiful pose against a completely different type of backdrop and it's very dramatic. I wonder where Iooss got the inspiration to photograph her in this setting. This is a great coffee table book for anyone who likes sports, but I'm giving it specifically to all my friends who are die hard Michelle-fanatics (you know who you are). ...
